Hi, my name is Shain,
And I pretty much have the best dad ever on the planet....
His name is Kenneth Petty, and he's been my dad for, oh I'd say about 22 years now. But anyway, let me tell you a little bit about him.
Back when I first started school, in kindergarten, one day my dad was taking me and my older bro. to get us a winter jacket, and on the way there, a car ran a stop sign and completely totaled our vehicle. My brother was thrown out and so was my dad, but before he was thrown out, he managed to shove me into the floorboard of the truck, and the truck flipped 4 times with me in it.
Amazingly I escaped with only a scratched nose. My dad on the other hand didn't get so lucky. When I found him laying there, his leg was broken and the bone was poking out of his leg. It was pretty scary when I was just 5 years old.
So from there he was unable to work for 7 or 8 years, until the Dr.'s gave him permission to work again.
So, he went back to the place he worked before the accident, and applied for a job there, and because of his leg and everything, they wouldn't hire him back. They wouldn't tell him that, but he pretty much knew.
So he hunted for jobs for awhile. And it must have been so hard trying to provide for us, but he did it.
Finally he got a job with a company called ABC Kersey Septic Tank Services. It was not a very
high paying job to start with, only $7 or so an hour, but with his leg being a health hazard that was all he could find. So my dad had a job cleaning Portable toilets, and picking them up and delivering them all over the city.
Funny thing is, you would think it would be an embarrassing job, and he would be ashamed, but he never was. He worked that job for 7 years. When he quit his boss looked up to him and loved him very much. He actually asked him if he sold the company if he would like to buy it from him.
But every time someone would ask my dad what he did for a job, he would say funny things like," Im a Portable Lab Technician...", or if you asked him," How do you stand the smell?!", and he would just reply with," Smells like money to me....".
Thats only a small part of why my dad is the greatest dad ever.
Every morning when I get up to head out for work or college, he's in the living room floor praying. Early in the morning, and he prays for me so much. I know that I would not be save today if it wasn't for my father praying for me.
But even in my journeys. He's there for me. I go to college right now, and I am also trying to start my own photography business.
thisdayphotography.combut he's always helping me and guiding me and telling me where I can still improve.
So, anyways. I would love to tell you how rich my dad is, and how he drives a lexus or jaguar to work every day. But I can't. But I can tell you that he's never missed a day of work. He's one of the hardest workers on the planet, and when he's called on to testify in church, he brings a smile to everyones face.
So thanks for the chance to give back to my dad. He would totally love this.
Shain.
